Hi folks,got the above compressor on the way to me which has a problem.when you switch it on,you can just hear a bit of a thud from the motor and won't run.I don't know much about the comp just its Clarke belt driven.

Firstly I would check there isn't pressure in the line between the cylinder and the receiver. I have known it where the unloader valve hasn't worked and the motor is unable to get the compressor turning against the pressure already in the system.
I think it more likely that the start capacitor has failed on the motor (unless something silly has happened, such as the compressor seizing). Assuming it is belt drive I would begin by removing the belt to check the motor on its own and go from there.

another one for the start/run cap. shouldn't be more than a tenner from ebay all in, your old one will have the necessary info, voltage and microfarad uF just get a universal replacement.

Finally got compressor today its clarke 160 Ltd 3 phase,but there seems to be a pipe missing from the pressure switch.can anyone confirm the size of this pipe.also the reckons he had this running in his van,but how can he if its 3 phase.

Maybe he was trying to run it on single phase? If it's the pipe from underneath the pressure switch to the non-return valve it could be 6mm or 1/4 inch, depending on the age of the thing. It could be copper with compression fittings or plastic with push-on fittings.

The top picture looks like it may be a compression fitting, I would guess it's the same as mine with a copper pipe given its age. Can you see what's under the pressure switch?
Is the middle picture the cyclinder? If so I guess that hole is where the air filter fits.

Yeah its the cylinder,so where can i get a filter and how much.
