Clarke 8" bench grinder?

the stones on my bench grinder is ok for odd bit inc drill etc.
I use one for dressing up the edges of flat bar up to 5mm thick.
but the grinding stone just wears out to quickly and create a lot of dust.
can any one recommend a harder stone for dressing up mild steel?

Hi , John, Harder grade stones do not tend to remove the metal so quickly, The softer stones are designed to wear down so they are constantly exposing new sharp edges on the grinding surface,

Just any brand name wheel of the right size; the ones that come fitted are usually made of cheese.

Norton abrasive wheels seem to be a good option.

I think we have a case under the trade descriptions act here. The ones I got definitely said Aluminium Oxide. You can get ceramic wheels but they are a lot more expensive.

Bit of a waste unless the OP wants to grind tungsten carbide, aluminium oxide is fine for steel.

My weapon of choice for this would be a linisher but if you want to grind it I would try a good brand name stone.
