Clarke 230tec

Hi all

New to the forum and after a bit of advice. Here we go i know 3 people who run the clarke 205te , 2 who run the clarke 230tec off a normal house hold plug. Brought clarke 205te last sunday built it up at work set wire feed tension etc not getting a bottle till the week end. So i just wanted to see if it worked so i tried it on some plate it worked then the wire feed stop. Press the trigger just click. So phone the tech they said it,s the circuit board so what i,m asking is could it of been me who damaged it.
Took it back to the shop they had no 205te in stock so i upgraded to a 230tec

So what i;m asking is it better to get a 30 amp feed fitted to the garage. I don,t what to damged another one.

You can use the 230 model up to No.4 power setting on a standard 13amp fused plug, above that it will pop the fuse. If you are going to be using it on it's maximum (applies to all machines) it needs to be on a 16amp+ supply.
Very unusual for a circuit board to go like that from new (I have sold 150+ Clarke machines over the last 18 month's with only one fault) but s*** happens.
If you'd have bought the machine from a specialist dealer such as moi! by the way, I've got the PCB's off the shelf

So could i run it off a 30 amp supply at home in the garage. But if i need to do a mobile job. Would i be able to have a 3 pin household pulg with a 1 foot of cable with a heavy duty plug on it.

Yes, but only for lower settings as Weldequip has mentioned. Not only will the fuse go, but the load on the plug would be too high for what its built for.
