Clarke 175 TEC

Hi guys,first post!

I'm looking for a welder to do some general fabrication work and mostly to restore cars with.
I could just about scrape up enough to buy the 175 TEC model.I've had a look through the forum,but I cant find much about them.
Does anybody have one,any advice on whether they're a good buy or not?

Hmmm,obviously a popular model.


Is there a better choice for the money maybe?

Good machine for the money, one or two of the forum members have bought them through me so should be able to comment. Other alternatives would be the Butters AMT170 or AMT1800.

I presume that this machine being 170 amps it would be really pushing things running from a standard 13 amp socket?

My Clarke 160EN (which is 150 amp) says specifically in the documentation not to run it from a 13 amp socket - we all know they have to cover themselves, then ignore it and fit a plug.

Hehe, my Butters 211 (220A) used to run quite happily off a 13A plug What's the worst that can happen? The plug fuse will blow, no damage to machine or electrics .

Ive got a 175tec, from weldequip. Im still learning but so far im happy with it!
Really smooth operation and adjustment. I run it from a 13amp plug just fine.
