Firstly, thanks to all who advised me about the power supply for this welder. If you did not see my follow up post, I am now the proud owner of a Clarke 150TE and absolutely love it.
I have set the welder up, using Clarke Co2 / Argon mix (disposable bottles) and bought some 1mm mild steel sheet to practice on.
When practicing, I find that I can lay neat welds on flat sheet and get good penetration, but when I try to join two pieces together, I either get little or no penetration - or blow holes.
Generally, I have found that a power setting of 2 (out of a possible 6) and wire speed of around 5.5 (goes up to 10) work best.
Given that I am blowing holes, then I guess it comes down to technique. I have watched the video on the tutorial and if I move the torch at a similar speed to that shown, then I can guarantee that I will blow a hole every time - however - if I reduce the power, then I get a very intermittent arc.
Has anyone got one of these welders and could suggest some power settings? Or perhaps someone could just give me a few pointers to getting a good weld on thin metal?
Thanks in advance.
