Hi all

I pick up the above welder next week its second hand but in good condition. Now it's been converted to accept the big bottles of gas which I have found locally and will pic up.

My question is what other kit will i need and any recommendations?

So far i got

Welding mask (was thinking of a auto darkening welding helmet)
Gloves
Welding jacket
Clamps to hold the meals and jobs etc
Spare tips and wire
Got lots of off cuts of steel from work to practice on
And a good battery in my phone to watch loads of videos as I'm new to all this

Will be used mainly for repair of a discovery 1 300tdi to help me remove the rust and replace with good metal.

Cheers both got a fire extinguishers in the garage and in the truck lol. Also been looking at the site for lots of info in how to start off. Also the gas I was looking to get was this mix would that be a good one to go for?


Hobbyweld 5 is a specific blend of 93% Argon, 5% Carbon Dioxide and 2% Oxygen, Ideal for MIG welding of steel under 5mm thick (such as car bodywork and thin sheet metal work. The Argon content results in low levels of spatter which in turn produces a great finish which requires less clean up time. The oxygen content provides good arc stability and the carbon dioxide provides the required depth of the weld. Yes ..had one of the £20 one's for 4 years now, it's getting a bit rough now but still works as it did on day one.

yup i've had one for about 14 months and had no problems (mask that is)
