My gasless MIG/flux core Clarke 102NG, used around 1 hr over the year since I bought is, waited until it was one day out of guarantee to work intermittently. I can’t find any threads on this and it seems there is just the owner’s manual available, with no circuit diagrams anywhere.
The issues started when mid-welding the feed stopped working and I couldn’t get the wire to spark. The power light was on, the overheat light was off, the cooling fan turned and I could hear a relay clicking when I pressed the trigger. The internal 2 amp glass fuse had blown but changing it made no difference. The feed motor worked when I applied 12v to it.
Then, without doing anything, the next day it worked fine for 2 minutes then the symptoms returned. The fuse was fine and there was continuity between its terminals. Then an hour later it worked again for the 10 minutes I needed. Then an hour later the symptoms returned. Then it worked. Then the symptoms returned and won’t go away.
I’m a hobby welder and have almost finished the project that I needed it for. It’s terribly frustrating particularly as I’ve used it so little, the guarantee has just expired and I had horrible problems with another flux core welder that i smashed in frustration. I must be jinxed.
The inside is pristine and all connections seem good. Before I start to strip it and use a multimeter and blind ignorance to check voltages and resistances, does anyone have any advice or info?
BTW I’m in the U.K. and haven’t yet found anyone selling spares for this.
