I just wondered how many of these units are still going?

I bought mine second hand circa 1990 and its still chugging along. Its had a couple of swan necks and new liners along the way, but its welded countless car panels and projects over the first 15 years.

Just dusted it off and with a new reel, shroud and tip, its working perfect.


Are they really that robust for what was a budget unit in its day?
Anyone else still using one?

I have a 100en bought new in 1987 and still working well

I have a 140amp arc welder, MM Mailorder Supplys it was from, through the Exchange and Mart, cost about £39 and bought about 1976.

It's scary when I think of the work it has done over the years, it looks like something from a skip now but still works great and as far as I can remember it's never cut out with overheating.

Think the guarantee is out though

I have a clarky 100e that my uncle Mick gave me. it was sat under the debris in his workshop for years and as you say looks like something out of a skip...so anyway its been sat under the debris in My workshop for years now and gets dragged out at MOT time. I dont even bother to evict the spiders and the thing still welds tidy! Thats alright for a freebee!

Hi HOL how about a pre "E" m/c. I use a 120 I think the "E's" came out a while after my m/c. Got mine about 25 to 30 years ago. All metal construction. Still going (I'm to tight to get a new one, could get a sip...). Woiuld you belive it, it don't fit the MM welding trolly very well. I would complain but I'm not sure the staff are old enough to know the m/c

I guess they are pretty reliable units then.

Mine looks dodgy, with desnts and scratches all over it but still works fine.
