clarke 100e erratic wire feed

hi there,
iv been having trouble lately with my welder, im thinking its more trouble than its worth,
whats happening is that the wire feed seems to be very erratic, meaning when i press the trigger it will usually like surge feed out really fast, then slow down speeds up etc.. i have tried it without any wire on the rollers and it still does it, makes no difference with or without wire

any help cheers

Quick fix might be to spray some wd40 into the wire feed pot using the straw that comes with the can. Reason maybe that the track on the pot is dirty (or worn out) There is usually a couple of small hohes on pots If it's a well used and old machine might be the brushes in the feed motor. Not easy to get at, but not impossible.

I had the same problem with my 100e. I replaced the wire feed motor, drive mech', wire feed liner to the torch and the control pot. All to no avail, I decided to stop chucking good money after bad and bought a new welder. I suspect the problem was a faulty control board. To be honest it gave me 20 years service and I suppose secretly it was an excuse to buy a new more powerful model, I still stuck with Clarke this time I bought a 151EN
