Hi to all, I haven't posted for some time. My clarke has been working great since I made 2 new bushings for the drive wheel and that stopped all the spuddering and interuped welds. Since I can weld for longer periods, my welder stops arcing after I weld for about 10 or 15 minutes. If I let it sit for a few minutes, it starts to weld fine and then stops arcing after a few minutes. My question is, does this sound normal for a welder as old as mine (about 20 or more years) or does this sound like a familiar problem to anyone. I've got a bunch of good info from reading this forum, so maybe someone else has had the same problem. Regards, Brepei.

drive wheel bushings
I replaced the bushings because the drive wheel had .010/inch play. I got a heads up about the bushings from my cousin, who along with his brothers have owned a welding shop for 30 years. So if the drive wheel has a lot of play when there's no pressure from the spring tensioned wheel the brass bushings need replaced. It made a big difference in the weld quality right
away. Thanks for the get back on the heated up machine problem. I was using .030 weld wire and ran out yesterday. I replaced it with a new spool of .023. When I resumed welding the machine never shut down again. I remembered then that .023 is the size that's recommended for my welder.

sounds like shes getting a bit warm fella, if ya not in the market for a new mig then slow them welds down, turn it down a notch you will get a bit longer out of it, if it not turbo fan cooled get one from a computer and mount it in the back of the welder caseing works wounders

has your welder got a fan or not if not fit one so it blows onto the coils to cool it more should give you more time welding
if you find you need to weld more a bigger mig would be better with a better duty cycle

Is it better to blow cold air on to the coils. Or Suck hot away away from them to the outside, like a computer does with the cpu fan ?

depends if you can get a fan in the case or not mine is set to draw air in the side vents and out through the back it's a 240 volt fan runs all the time the power is on,
been like it 25 years now still works well don't get used much now but you always find things you cant do without one
like i have some gates to remake to fit the drive, no one would want to do them so it's DIY or pay like 450 pounds plus 14ft opening for decent gates
these i paid 35 pounds for them just the steel would be more than double the cost
