clark weld mig pro 90

hello my name is pete and I was wondering if the above mig welder is any good for car body repairs and occasional welding up to 3mm thick .the man selling the welder says its lowest setting is 24amps if this is of any help this will be mainly for maintaining my car and van , it wont be used constantly just when I need to do some welding for the mot mainly , any help would be greatly appreciated , I have done stick welding and a bit of tig and mig welding in the past , but never went into the technical side of things , but I have found this site and I think its great for all the info that you have on here , I am also looking at a couple of other welders and when I get the information on them ,I will ask on here .

Car body repairs and a bit of moderate diy use is what that particular budget brand is made for. It'll be fine for what you need it for

ive got one , use it for car body patch ups on a occaisonal basis , its fine for what i need , works great on thin stuff

while it would stick 3mm stuff together , im not sure id want to join that thickness where it matters like a chassis , would be ok for a gate hinge etc but its not much good on thick stuff

It should be a good little welder for most car bodywork. But as said, be cautious about using it on 3mm if it's safety critical. Here's an interesting review of a Clarke 90:

I have a Pro 90 (my first and only welder), has been great for learning with
It has very low settings for thin metal but I usually use the mid-range settings for bodywork and panel repairs.
I find anything that needs the lowest settings is so rusty it should be cut out and replaced with decent metal.
It has welded some padlock hasps and security grates so it can cope with heavier welding than car panels but only at it's top settings and only for short bursts.

Budget for an auto-darkening helmet if you can, they help a lot!

Mine is using pub c02 gas as I found the little disposable bottles were difficult to control and soon ran out

thankyou all for the info , I have been reading on the forum plus your answers and I have now got the mig pro 90 , Ive also bought a 20litre argon/co2 mix bottle and I have a set of gauges coming with a flow meter as well , I think my first project will be makeing a trolly for carrying the welder and bottle on with a bits shelf as well , and If I need to do any thick stuff welding I will use my old arc welder , once again thankyou all for your help and advise
