Clamps, how many is to many?

I think I have amassed nearly 50 clamps of various types & there has been at least one occasion when I needed most of them on a single job!

The extra heavy duty ones are something special, there's nothing else quite like them.
But the light and medium duty ones are bang average IMO. Their main advantage is that they are indestructible and totally idiot proof... but there's lots of good F clamps on the market that are almost as good, just not quite so idiot-proof.
My preferred type are Bessey SG HD clamps, I have a couple of cheaper Kennedy HD copies, and they're currently my favourite welding clamps the build quality is fine, and the force you can get on them for tightening is a lot more than the medium duty Carvers.
Then again, Carvers will last several generations, with nothing more than a screw replacement or two...

I missed out on some in 2019. At the local car boot, had no cash.
The tender wanted £0:50p each.

you can never have enough i regret i didn't buy more from my friend when he retired, he had 4" g cramps up to 10" g cramps the sashs cramps from 2ft upto 8ft plus extensions he had probably amassed about 60 cramps

The Vice/Vise thread is bad enough, I'm not getting caught up in this one. Too many small clamps to count, which were purchased by the bucket full for pennies from the salvage yard back when I worked at Lockheed many years ago.

As much as I want more clamps, it's very rare I use even half the ones I've got, certainly don't need any more.

Got to agree about Carver clamps, superb things. When I did my apprenticeship in the early '70's they were everywhere in the fab shops.
Now I wish I had some and begrudge the silly asking prices.

True but there is the inbuggerance of not having enough.

When you see one for £1 at the car boot you just cant say no.
Only have 3 Carvers though so must try harder.

I'm glad other people have this problem too. I didn't know how many I had until I got somewhere to stash them.

Some are in use, the table has a slight bow in it, so clamped it down to the cast bed of the table saw while I pour the resin or it will all pool in the middle.

And these won't fit on the rack

Or these pipe clamps, I have another 3 sets somewhere, great if your making larder cabinets.

And downstairs in the barn I have the mother of all sash clamps 5 quid from the market, about 6 foot long. Not sure exactly where it is.

Well, I hadn't seen this thread but today I called into Truflame in Sheffield for a magnifying lens for my helmet, there on the shelf, next to me, at the checkout, RIGHT THERE: Bessey Clamps, half price <sigh> here they are with the three waiting for me when I got home:



Really nice, well built with a really fast heavy copper coated ACME Thread. I too took advantage of the MSC deal on the Kant Twist clamps. I will see how I get on with them and if I like them, next time they go on special I will buy more.
The Bessey clamps mean business though.
