Clamp hinges-is there a need to drill when fitting?

I was talking on the phone today to a guy at Brindles (Sheffield) about getting some 40mm box section drilled in preparation for the eye bolt type hinges. I don’t have a pillar drill or indeed did not fancy drilling 6 holes of 16mm dia. He suggested using clamp hinges (see link at bottom)

I can’t work out how these work exactly in respect of the fact that he explained that there is no need to drill the gate-only welding is required. Can anyone clarify please?

a few more designs for you in the hinges section.
the clamp hinges your on about can either just be bolted on or welded on aswell
tried searching for the design ive seen but cant find any. have you got a sketch of the gate your building, they may not be the best type of hinges to use

Drill the box section with a hole saw in a normal pistol or cordless drill - thats all we do. Tis easy.

Don't think the one you have shown will save you anything. They are normally used where a gate is hinged on the bottom of the frame. They won't do what you want them to.

That sort fit inside the box frame do they not?
Go with Paul's suggestion, holesaw. Not hard work by any means.
