Cladding shed / workshop frame ?

I've put off building a new shed / workshop for too long so need to crack on and get it done. I'm forgetting the idea of building the frame out of scaffolding poles due to still needing to attach timber so it can be clad. Now I'm planning on a frame out of Unistrut that will have OSB on inside, insulation then outer cladding. The size will be 10' x 8'.
Then there is the question to what to use for outer cladding ? This will be within the planning rules so nobody can complain but in a prominent position so don't want corrugated or box profile steel sheets. Timber could work out expensive. I've though about cement board sheets then coating with tyrolean.
Would this work for a shed as don't want it cracking and falling off

£540 buys you a 10 x 8 log cabin made from 19mm planks, you could insulate and line it and it would be ready to go.

^^ +1 they should automatically comply with all the regulations too. I'd insulate on the inside and line with plasterboard to give some fire protection.

I wouldn't go with the 19mm planks as they will bow all over the place at that length - It's worth paying the extra for the 28mm planks unless you are going to batten out the inside (which would add some much needed bracing) to allow you to fit insulation and lining boards.

Ive looked at this for animal shelters. Once you factor in your time just as cheap to buy a shed as build one.

Id keep away from steel due to condensation issues.

Id have a concrete floor too. Wood floors burn when welding!

You don't need planning for sheds round here as long as they are not more than 50% of the area they are built on. I laid a base then built mine out of 4" concrete blocks it's a bit more permanent and probably a bit more flame resistant.

If you're gonna DIY a metal frame rather than use unistrut which is heavy and expensive and not designed for building stuff out of why not use metal partition studding? That's what it's designed for after all. It's cheap, easy to cut, easy to make a frame out of and once it's boarded it's rigid as hell. It fixes together with self-drill screws and you could build a whole frame in a day easy. Clad one side, add insulation, run your wires for power and lighting then clad it again job done. I'd suggest go for ply or plasterboard inside and something composite for the externals. They even do it in super-duty 6" wide pieces.

stuff that id rather buy all the materials thats needed and have a much stronger shed than the pinelap built sheds oh and pinelap sheds is very close to me

The manufacturer relies on the customer making a suitability assessment for things like distance from boundaries, height, construction materials, local land covenants and the myriad other rules regarding garden buildings, some of which are national but many local...

If that's not stating the obvious then nothing is. I was referring to any (indeed if any) construction regulations. I've seen adverts for garages saying they comply with building regs.

My point was that the time you invest in building a shed from scratch and the cost of the materials could be saved by buying a pre-made log cabin.
If you have loads of free time that you want to fill then go ahead and build a shed from scratch but I think you'd struggle to buy 200M of 125mm x 19mm planed and rebated timber for £540 let alone the other materials and fixings.

if you check correctly actually no shed is allowed in a front garden this includes wood sheds its also the same for greenhouses

then it all depends on your next door neighbour if they complain about it or not and this can be done in 4 years as my neighbours smack bang in it after he complained about my shed and hes just built his greenhouses and his garden double shed within the front garden hes been warned whats good for the goose is also good for the gander and im looking forward to him taking it all back down and moving the lot and told hoim to his face to check the regs before he complains about others doing theres as it can bite back by the regs

where they can be situated is at the side or at the rear of the garden

however this does not include bike sheds or small storage sheds

I'm retired so my time is free. As per my original posting I don't want to use timber due to expense. I've looked at loads of ready made sheds and to get an acceptable quality would cost me at least £750 upwards. Cheaper sheds are such because they use thinner, and often less, sections for the framing. I have a load of Unistrut & fittings sitting unused - nearly enough required to make the basic frame.

Just bouncing an idea How about I clad the outer of the frame in OSB then some sort of waterproof / breathable membrane before attaching good quality fencing panels ?

I can't see how cement board sheets with tyrolean render and then masonary paint is going to be any cheaper than treated timber.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for using found or free materials for building projects but if you want it to look pretty as well that becomes difficult without a lot of work.
I will post up a photo of a small gypsy caravan I built from scratch using pallet timber but I had access to an industrial saw, planer thicknesser and spindle moulder and what I saved on material costs I paid for in a huge amount of time!

10 off 8x4 sheets of 6mm cement board is going to set you back around £300 as a start, it weighs alot so you need plenty of fixings, then you have the problem of trying to fix it to the Unistrut without it cracking.

Custom shed is totally the way to go too IMO. I've had some cheap sheds in the past, and they're utterly horrid. The ones that aren't horrible are very expensive IMO, and of course they only come in certain sizes too, and then you still have to buy insulation etc etc

I'm building a little workshop for myself (3x3m) utilizing a wood frame and galvanized sheet on the outside and plasterboard on the inside, with rock wool sound insulation in the middle, and I will end up spending less than 1k. Don't think I could do it much cheaper with a bought timber shed, and it definitely would be flimsier and less secure.

15 sheets of 18mm OSB (including apex and roof) plus a roll of breather membrane and say 8 off 6' x 6' fence panels is going to set you back around £400 plus felt for the roof and fixings plus the difficulties of the size of the fence panels.
