Yeah this concerns me too, I swapped out the handle and cover from my Parweld progrip to the CK I have. I like the progrip handle more than the tat that comes on a CK and the sheath is nice and thin leather near the torch with rubber on the rest. Still keeps the superflex cable free to wrap round your hand.
AH we work with a lot of carbon fibre braided sleeves for making bikes and use the CK superflex cables when we build steel ones, it strikes me as a bit odd they are beautiful and light especially as we weld bicycle frames up ,but the minute you put an outer cover you get a heavy cable and its somewhat less flexible (obviously im takning zip up covers and the like
solution for us was nomex braided sleeve similar to the carbon and a zip tie on each end same flexibility hardly any increase in weight
I persuaded Miss Kane to fire up the sewing machine and stitch me up a thin leather cover to protect the superflex cables. The cover is simply whip tied to the torch and being leather should be both heat and abrasion resistant, smells nice as well.
