The sills on a DS are a simple rectangular box. On the Safari (estate) the sill has an extra layer steel added to the outside. This is fine for strengthening, but Citroen just placed the two sheets together, spot welded along the bottom and top and didn't bother with paint, let alone underseal. Consequently water wicks up between the sheets and rots the whole lot. The added strengthener is an inverted L, and is welded at the top as well.
When Brigitte Bardot was a jobbing actress, she worked part time as a spot welder for Citroen. She must have been paid by the spot weld because there are dozens and dozens. I didn't bother drilling them out, I used the Lidl plasma cutter.
I had a local firm bend some 2mm and 1.5mm steel sheet. The insides of the sill will get plenty of Dinitrol. I've already done the right hand side. I've done half the left hand side. All the holes are spot welds
Brigitte always initialled her work.
