citric acid de-rusting (again!)

Thinking about it, there would have been copper in the pads?

There is or was copper in some makes bike pads, I remember buying ones in the late 80's described as copper sintered (?) you could see little bits of copper in them looking almost like brass turnings.

Use dishwasher salt.
So much cheaper.

table salt is only 40p/kg, any way.
cant see it mattering for the amount used?

if its needed in large quantitities, itd be hard to beat white road salt @£5 for £25kg.

Well, I stuck the horseshoes and farrier's file in a bath of the acid this afternoon and within a fairly short time could see it working on the files. I assume it's doing it's thing on the shoes too, but didn't fish one out to see.

I'm going away for most of next week so they can soak until I get back.

Site I was at today uses citric acid as a rust removal set up.

Big Tanks, and some small items.

The big tanks are normally left at room temp. They told me they leave the items in there when they have time. They also have hot tanks when a bit of speed is needed.

They either bake the items to dry them, or pressure wash them and send them straight into the shop for work.

Tried it on part of a rusty rasp I left out and it worked. I also got some 85% phosphoric acid recently, want to see what it does.
