as anyone got or used the evolution rage multisaw?
says it will cut up to 6mm.
been given load of 3.5mm steel plate i need to cut along with 2mm sheet.
its been rough cut out of something with a gas axe so want to cut it nice and straight.
its also excuse to buy new toy sorry tool

I bought one a while ago when we had to cut up a lot of Unistrut to ceiling mount a number of LCD screens that all needed to be positioned very close together. It ripped through the normal shallow Unistrut in no time, noisy and a bit messy but quick.
I would expect that it will cope with 3.5mm plate just as easily, the instructions gave an estimate of length x depth of cut in steel from a new blade, it is probably on the web site too.
I would have bought the chop saw version had they been available locally but on the day the only 110V available was the handheld circular saw type.

I bought one used it twice had to send it back as the blade stopped turning ! it came back , repaired under warranty and I used it twice more and it packed up again , its still in the box under the bench , in its defence , when it did cut it was good but it didnt last long , this was about 8 years or so ago , hopefully they are better now !

We have one of the larger ones, use it for cutting open mesh flooring mostly.
Its noisy, not really one for home use, unless your neighbours live a loooooooong way away.

If you mean the 185 one, I would definitely buy another one, I have a dedicated steel blade in it now but the multipurpose blade lasted well for me, for the price it was well worth it. Just let it cut at its own pace don't don't go pushing it through the metal, like you should with any cutting tool really.The Rage3 though, not happy with that one.

arnt these just normal saws with special blades in reality...i cut a lot of ally checker plate with just a normal wood saw and a good quality tipped blade that never seems to lose its edge. Just a thought

The rage metal cutting saws run slower than a wood cutting saw, for the 185 its 3500 rpm against upwards of 5000 for a comparable sized wood saw. I had one of the hand held saws when they first came out, cost over £350, and would eat its way through 6mm mild steel plate without bother, although the blades are not cheap and we soon spent more on blades than the machine cost.
Another story on stainless though, even with the special evolution stainless blade fitted It struggled, the tool was eventually demoted to cutting wood,

ahh got ya...explains why i need ear protectors when cutting my ally plate,the noise is un-bearable without them

yup,anywhere near stainless and the heat cant get away(stainless doesn't seem to conduct heat very well) and the braized tips fly off the blade and your screwed,works fine for mild steel at its own pace of course,but if i had my day again i would have just bought a makita chop saw
