I moved it on my own mate... After my son picked it up out of the trailer... Lol
I used 3 x 1 inch steel rollers.

Well, no mill today!
Transport company collected it on a low loading car trailer.
But it wasn't loaded very well (to one side and not directly over the axles).
Because of this it blow one of the tyres out and guess what? No spare.
They had to recover the trailer and mill on a recovery truck which is now on its way back to Bristol.

I brought my L5 Harrison home in my 6x4 trailer a 60 mile trip. the tires needed blowing up a bit as they were a bit flat at the bottom . came off the m1 and checked it over the tires were fairly warm 
I was only doing 60mph all the way back 
I think my speedo under reads by 15mph though

The motor on this thing is HUGE but it looks like it needs some new belts.
What do people think was the original colour? I've seen others in Green or Gray but this one seems to have a light blue under the flaking off paint.
Vertical head is not Cincinnati rather a Denbigh Morse 3 2x speed affair, although the slotting head looks original to the machine.

Just taken a closer look at the mill (haven't got it hooked up to any power yet).
Ignoring the 70's distressed paint job (that people seem to want to pay a premium for) the mill is in excellent condition.
All the feed dials rotate and engage freely, the manual feeds are all very smooth, the auto feed levers all engage smoothly.
The flaking is still intact on the knee so it doesn't look like this thing has been used to death.
Just have to wait and see if all the hydraulics are working.

Seems odd that such a brute of a machine should be painted pastel shades
I think it's going to go back to baby blue, seems oddly out of place.
Good news is that my little forklift can actually raise this thing and move it about without the back wheel bouncing off the ground!

Those old US, British and European made machines were built to last several lifetimes, and with a bit of maintenance do. Have a look a the Starrett factory tour video in the youtube thread and they have a lot of old horizontal mills doing simple cuts, so they are still current technology.

One of the first jobs I will have for this mill once it's up and running will be to machine down some steel flat bar that has been welded to some RHS.
The flat bar will need planing down to take out any distortion from welding and two steps / Shoulders cut to locate a linear rail and a rack.
With this mill I can stack three cutters together and perform all the operations in one pass.
The RHS will be 3 meters long and held in two identical vises that will be clocked in to true, all I have to do will be to run a 28" cut, reverse and then slide the RHS along in the vises by 28" and repeat until done.
Much more work in the BP.
