Chuck advice

I'm looking to get a chuck for my mag drill so that I can use it with twist drills as a portable drill press. I'll need to get a chuck with a 1/2" x 20 UNF thread and have been looking at the Jacobs chucks.

Trouble is I can't decide what to look for and whether to get a keyed or keyless chuck. I have been thinking about either a 33BA as a keyed chuck or one of their Medium Duty Industrial Keyless chucks. Does anybody have any feedback on either of these or their suitability for use, or have any suggestions for similar quality alternatives?

Keyless would be my gut preference but I've not used a keyless chuck in an application like this before so don't know how firmly it would grip any bits

My mag drill has a Jacobs keyed with it, including the adaptor. It can only do a (stated in manual) 13mm hole. If you think about it a keyless chuck in a cordless manages a 13mm without issue so I don't see why it won't on a mag drill.

Fwiw I'm putting a 16mm chuck on my mag so I can use larger shank countersinks which will also get used on my pillar drill so didn't want to get Weldon shank csk's.

keyless chucks grip just as well as keyed chucks its a matter of preferance. i like a keyless on my rechargeable drill because u can reverse it holding the chuck and open it fast then forward and tighten it fast just by pulling the trigger thats the only advantage. on the lathe i use either

I don't like keyless, only have them for drill drivers
