Can we have halon back then please?
it isnt that simple to doWhen all this comes into effect is there anything to stop hobby chromers doing their own stuff
Bob
I phoned the local fire brigade and they came and took mine away as it is a private address.I have 2 of them in the back of the shed, no idea what im going to do with them

no with the tanks transformers and chemicals and putting the electrodes in the right position for chroming its an art and expensiveI know a lot goes into the polishing ,isn't the actual chroming the easy bit?

I don't think we refer to the same when saying hard chromium plating. The one I mention gives a rather dull finish before grinding and has a crackled surface to better carry oil film for lubrication of moving parts. In hard chrome plating its the hexavalent chromium thats transferred in the electrolytic process, this is what gives you the shiny finish
dont forget half crowns and florinsAnd guineas
Make sure have this caper on video. I want see how the other blue light service may reactI am working in a fire station soon, problem is not my local one.
I may ask for advice (and if I can pretend to drive the fire engine with the lights and siren on)
Yep. The effort is in the surface prep, chrominance is the easy bitI know a lot goes into the polishing ,isn't the actual chroming the easy bit?

Yeah I get that, there is another finish that used as a build up coating so a job can be machined back to original spec.I don't think we refer to the same when saying hard chromium plating. I didn't know they used Hydrofluoric Acid in chrome plating. That is seriously nasty stuff, only time I've come across it was in wafer fab sites.
Quite right; they won't write themselves, you know.I have a few crank journals to get done,
Many of EU's bans have been due to lobbying from German businesses that will benefit - not good enviromental or safety reasons. I've seen enough of them recently. An example, EU bought in linked braking systems for motorcycles, a terrible, unsafe idea, at the request of Bosch. Why not??? A decision to ban wouldn't have been taken lightly. I'm old enough to remember the Montreal protocol banning various chloro-fluoro solvents back in the 1980's. We used huge amounts of Freon113 and people were wondering around saying that losing it would be would be the end of the industrial world. It wasn't, new products and methods were developed which were as good or better and the decision to ban was absolutely right.
