"Christmas Treed" threads?

Hello, Can anyone explain that to me? Someone suggested that this might be "christmas treed", but I'm still waiting for an explanation from him and a web search just brings up pages of...christmas trees.

I’ve heard Christmas tree being used to describe aircraft that get robbed of parts to keep other ones flying. But that don’t loook like it came from an aircraft !

From the photo I can't work out any faults and it screwed back in by hand. I've no idea what the supposed possible problem is.
As the poster on the other group still hasn't responded, it's beginning to feel like a forum drive-by "you've got a problem there" by the sort who love to spread gloom.

Probably just a numpties poor attempt at cockney rhyming slang " christmae treed" "seized" which the nut on the stud is.

not sure about that thread, but tucker do make a thread called an Xmas Tree thread, they are on welding studs used for holding plastic components

Just re-read his comment: "I would also suggest they the thread has "christmas treed" ie no longer symmetrical . Whether it is a problem with keel bolts I don't know but with rigging turnbuckles you would replace them"

This ties in with Optima's example. Not sure of the implications and neither was he in this application.
It's going back in for the time being at least as I can't just pick up a replacement 316 stud like this.

It may be the affect of the camera but the stud looks bent to me if you look at the thread where it comes out the top of the nut. That may explain why the stud undid instead of the nut.

Could the term “Christmas tree’d” refer to the way a thread will sometimes deform before it strips with the threads all pulled over the one way like the layers of a pine tree? Never heard it referred to other than this threads knackered .... or

like this...? The guy just replied. Not sure what to do with this info now. I'll be able to look at the threads properly in a few days time.

Reason was/is, how worried should I be? Without knowing what it meant, I couldn't know the implications. These hold the keels on, so I'd quite like them not to fail. :-) I also understand that I'm looking at hundreds of pounds to replace them, if that is needed.
I can't tell from the photo either, and I didn't notice when I had the thing in front of me, but then I was looking for signs if crevice corrosion.

Trick of the light IMO. It does look like the thread tops are turned but for them to be bent the way it seems you'd have to overload the bolt whilst in-doing them.
What I'd be more concerned about is the rounded crests. Those bolts look like they have started to pick up on the crests and I'd be worried about them seizing when re-fitted.

Do some tests on the bench. If you can run a new nut down them I'd say good to go. If it's binding a bit run a good die down the bolt and try again.

Thanks, that's helpful. I put them back in straight away, to stop stuff falling in and they went in by hand pretty much all the way. I've got to drop the keels now anyway, so will get a better opportunity to inspect them. I've just ordered a couple of new nuts & I'll see if I can get hold of a die as it's quite possible the secondhand tool shop will have one.
