Hi all
I found some pictures for Klunker Classic 07 ? could have cried all those frames dumped in a skip , I am building my chopper from a lugged frame as frames are now hard to come by [ policy at local dump NO Sales ] and the tandem !
That granny's nightmare looks a pig to ride , Yep that is why I have extended my frame at the rear but will it be enough ?

Lugged frames are a right pain to build with, you cut into the lugs and there are huge holes inside. DR H had had a hole you could put your thumb through, I did not care by then I just filled it with braze and scrap metal.

Love this thread, it inspired me to start my own, which is nearing nearly complete, nearly! Actually it isn't but the frame is all tacked together and looking killer.

Pictures? Will do at the end of the weekend, should have the forks done by then. As soon as the missus goes out to work I'm off to the shed to cut my yokes.

Hi all
It's ridable !!! just ton's of wheel flop but then the trail is probably 10-12" but who cares.
If you look closely at the picture you can see the forks are a little twisted near the top , not much I can do about that doubt I am strong enough for cold setting it.
Done about 2 hours riding on it , no sign of anything breaking yet.
So whats next :-
cable guides for front fork
cable guides for extended gear cable
front shifter
plate under chain stay extension to mount stand
add small tube between chain stay bridge and rear of seat post
then some primer
all for now Paul

Thats cool, a nice frame build with room for the riders legs, so many choppers are built for dwarfs.
The extra bit on the chain stays sounds like a good idea.
Does the seat post go below the welded joint?

Yep I am quite tall , and worried that the weld may fail due to angle of stress.
Yes it is a normal post , just long.
Probably not , to near pension.
This is only one of a long line of unfathomable hobbies
Wifes question was why ? same answer as to why people climb Everest

Just make sure it is long enough, mine fouls your feet as you turn.
The atomic Zombie version looks cool but handles worse, having the pivot in front of the seet tube gives better handling.

Is there no bike you haven't built !
That was the only picture I could find at the time and it was a commercial bike called a swing bike that was built like that.
In the AZ book Brad advocates 2" past knees for pivot point and enough length in front piece to stop pedal wheel interference [ 16" IIRC ].
I was thinking more like this :-

Can you do me a favour and give me some dimension for a banana seat suitable for an adult to sit on ?
I have never seen one in the flesh and as I am sitting very upright I have not found a bicycle seat that is comfortable enough for more than 2 miles or so.
I have a 2 spring old style wide seat [ 10" ] but it is a new one with a plastic base covered in thin foam.

Havent a clue. I used a skateboard deck for mine, covered in camping mat foam and some vinyl I found in a skip. Looks great agony to sit on.
Pointers, they need to be narrow or you cant pedal, and well padded.
Chopper Crutch is a recognised syndrome. The ergonomics of these things are not the best, you are sat upright with all your weight on the base of your spine and no weight through your legs or arms. They are a stupid idea which is why they have never caught on. They are also cool.
I have seen a good version which used a butchered office chair. Comfy but it did look silly.
Paul you have it pretty bad, I can remember this phase, a fantastic obsession and you just cant stop. Sadly I think I am almost rehabilitated, the bikes are covered in bindweed, some minus wheels but the memories are there, and now and again I get on the Cider with M23 my useless henchman and the creative juices flow again.
I have been commuting to work on The Tallbike lately, a 20 mile round trip and that is nice. Probably the only practical bike we ever made.
Your next mission is Tallbie, then swingbike, then something really stupid and original.

Sorry but had to paint it , and been riding it around [ I even think my welding is getting better , must be the paint fumes ! ]
I may treat it to some new cables and chain now as it is fun to ride and I want to get some miles on it this summer.
Also look what I got for free ? and I bought a space saver wheel and tyre brand new for a fiver so the next chopper will probably have a car wheel

Now that's got to be done. 
I was thinking of a car wheel for number two build, chop out the centre and weld in some bars for spokes. Groovy!
