If it's a temporary until the phone provider can send an engineer to do a proper repair then pretty much anything that connects the two wires together will work.

Even a twist and tape will work for that scenario.

Just be aware that the 50Volts on the line can give you a bit of a surprise if you make contact. And if any phones are left off the hook it gets even more surprising as it can rise up to nearer 100Volts.

My party trick, if it is one, is grabbing hold of live electric fences.
The key is to grab on as tight as you can. Just brushing onto it concentrates the current and is painful.

Forward EMF from the line (50v) or ringing voltage (75v).

We use the gel filled plastic boxes ( too many ) Found the best way to join overheads or lines draped through vegetation is to tie string to both ends and draw cable ends together plus some, then tie the two ends of string together. This gives you plenty of slack on the cable, you can then concentrate on the joints without doing battle with the cable..

I did this to the fibre cable into our house with hedge trimmer.

Open reach came - fitted new cable and did not charge me

Be aware, while you can joint the cable with pretty much anything and get the phone line to work, broadband is a lot more sensitive to cabling issues.

Scratch that. That line ^ went to a chunky socket that looked like the master, but is now defunct.

I plugged into a smaller socket in another room (hidden behind a box) and everything started working.

More to do with where they are run and the lack of any program to cut back anything that engulfs them. BT really are sloppy with their installations of overheads.

if you think bt is rough comcast used to dig across your garden and lawn and suposedly bury the green flexible ducting underground .in reality you could see most of it at the surface

Round here they have started to spray green lines around 18 inches long along the pavement and turning at the base of each pole. Not sure whats going on??
