im a big chop sop fan and i agree the welding could be better but if its that bad how does it pass an m.o.t.? theres no reports of there cars messing up have you build a car? if so lets see the photo regards martin

Just google "chop shop bodge" plenty of infomation there to tell you how unsafe and how many people are shocked by there work, its a big joke. Welding could be better, there is know way the welding could be worse, its all tacked with a mig and filler all over, not even spot welded. Take a Mini and deseam it, do you tack and filler it hell no it needs to be seem welded, and especialy with the amount of pannels that there cars have had cut, an mot is for that day and hold no guarantee after it leaves.

Anyone with mechanical or fabrication skills can see that. Thats most of this forum.

agree completely. The designs are terrible, the welding apalling, and the engineering a dangerous bodge. (welding a subframe from one car complete with engine and suspension (mondeo) into another (Fiesta) - did you see the camber change?? shocking.

Its only the filler and the paint job that makes the cars saleable- and you never see any protection or thought to rust prevention underneath the car- I bet within a few years of use their cars will be on the scrap heap.

Having said that, I do watch and enjoy every episode just to see what terrible idea they will do this week!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling like this.

It's purely telly entertainment and a shocking indictment of British TV that they can't find more good programmes like the Mark Evans series or perhaps an Anglicised version of 'Wrecks to Riches' or 'Biker Build Off' - without all the pseudo drama and shouting, just the craftsmanship and engineering.

If you watch American chopper and see OCC buying bits that they need and having stuff made there is never a quibble about money and the likes - then you watch 'our' series chop shop, he his always moaning about buying bits, and in the last program he was really miffed when leepo paid 2 grand for a Porsche.
They are supposedly making them for celebs that have a few quid, and the whole lot is probably paid for by the program makers anyway. I wonder what the yanks would make of it if they watched it?

chances are they have a set budget for each car .i try not to watch it as i end up shouting at the telly (man im getting old) its not far off scrap heap challenge but atleast they know there stuff is junk.

The workmanship and engineering is usually far better on scrapheap challenge than on Chop Shop!

....If its curved, you have to make a buck out of something fireproof, then find a glass company who is willing to pull a laminated one over your mould. The cost is horrendous, better to find something near and adapt if possible...

Chop Shop has improved dramatically though with this series....
Scooby running gear etc onto the golf was prime example, they have got some decent mechanics...and even tried to align it properly.
They even mentioned SVA test !

Yes we want more fabricating/motoring shows .. but at least us lot have Sky to actually watch them ... not much shown on freeview at the moment (I suspect)

Chop cut Rebuild, is a good show. they go into almost as much detail as the Mark Evans series.

I assumed they scrap the cars after each episode. It's cheap telly knocking something together badly for an embarrassed celebrity, but it would be a massive liability to sell the things on afterwards.

Definately not, i have seen some of them for sale on their old website. Also have heard them mention of cars going off for MOT testing. Not sure if it'd be single vehicle test for some of them, depends on how much is original to the donor car. But light heights, and protuberances/edges must have to be measured for every motor.
