Hi I seem to be braking blades on my bandsaw after chatting to a helpfull saw blade supplier he thinks my problem is that I'm not swapping blades enough for the dif sizes and thickness of mild Steel I'm cutting. The only problems see with keep swapping blades over is that this takes up a lot of time in a day. My plan is to have a blade on the bandsaw for cutting flat bar and then look at buying a chop saw for cutting the box section! What u think to this plan???????

I no it may sound like a expensive way of doing it but I like to try and be as quick end efficient as possible to keep customers happy to speedy turn around is a must.


Also what chopsaws are any good single phase.

I've got one of these from Dewalt, had it for four years on one blade and use it all the time.

Note dont try and be clever by cutting three tubes at once one inside the other. Wrecked the first blade 24 hours after buying the saw.

Is this a horizontal bandsaw you're talking about Bean? Not sure why you'd be breaking blades as our last for ages. The teeth sometimes get broken off coarse-tooth blades through people cutting thin stuff (usually unistrut), but finer tpi blades just keep on going. No reason to change blades between box and flat, at all. I think you must have another problem.

Is the bandsaw for cutting metal only or is a wood bandsaw with a metal blade fitted ?

Could it be the speed is too high and causing the blade to break ?

I just purchased myself a makita lc1230 for cutting box section / flat bar etc, not cheap at about £400 but its good.

I do plan at some poiint to get a bandsaw but it would probably be more for wood than metal.

i've a dewalt for a few years and am happy with it
usually get the blade sharpened once a year ,cost around £8
the only thing is it dosent like cutting rebar
The prices on the link seem high I got mine new for £280 all in

If you're constantly breaking blades then possibly you're using the wrong type of blade, you're using cheap blades, you're abusing them or your saw isn't set up correctly.
Speak to the people at Tuff Saws, tell them what sort of stuff you normally cut and they will sort you out with the correct blades.
I bought some from them when they traded as Dragon saws and they made a world of difference to both my bandsaws.

hi cheers for the help its a a metal cutting band saw for cutting metal. i have also changed what sort of blades i got because i was worried i was buying cheap ones. the ones im buying now seem to be what i would call more expensive ones.

Im not saying that its not some my fault maybe it is but i have followed and try alot of peoples advice about running the saw right. and have chatted to few people and they have advised me to change blades i think this is bit of waste of my time swapping blades every 5 min. and tiring lol.

I think ill just have to keep on trying. what does annoy me these days is lack of help thew instruction manuals are, i remember when it gave u some advice these days a rough picture is all u get. am the only one that finds this???

i got a fine tooth blade will this be any good for cutting 40 x 40 box by 2.5 mm what sorts of speeds should i be cutting at.???

What bandsaw is it and what blades have you been using?

Usual problem is too much feed on box,when you are through the horizontal part of the box it wants to rip down the vertical parts ,I catch the weight of the blade and slow the cut until i hit the bottom horizontal cut ,then le the feed take over.What saw is it ,hydraulic control on feed?

its a European make its ment to be pretty good. to be honest i think its same as a lot of saws just dif sticker and configuration of controls. blades off hand dont no make not got box around at mo there american ones. its hydraulic controlled saw with variable speed to. the swarf is fine so that means need to slow feed rate down???

Are you using coolant?,it will make a difference,do you notice a speed increase on the box section,on the vertical?...I use a different speed on flat/ round stock to box/unistrut,the feed needs to be slower,is it box its breaking on?..I prefer the variable or multi pitch blades rather than one fixed pitch,what types of material are you cutting ?all steel?

What blade are you using on the chop saw since ruining the first one.

I wrecked mine trying to cut solid bar.

I remember putting a post on A N Other welding site bemoaning my stupidity.
The next day a forum member turned up with a pair of Makita blades for free!!!! would not even let me buy him a pint.
I think they maye have been sponsored by HM government.
The first one is going strong.
What a star.
Question, do they blades need cooling fluid? I thought they ran too fast for that.

I use makita blades on my chop saw, the first one lasted a year and I have only just changed it because i have no more adjustment to lower the saw Id definitely recommend them.

cant fault the M42 /bi-metal blades ,unless i,m cutting wider than 50mm for any length of time i use a 10/14tpi it really depends if they are 1 off cuts of a certain size or varied material section,i may leave the same blade in for days,if its on continual production then they snap after 12-20 hours ,always slow speed on s/s & tough steel such as en16,maybe you need to check alignments & if theres any internal pressure e.g after the cuts finished & you release the vice does the steel spring away from the blade.Also avoid cutting thru a flame cut surface as its case hardened.

we have one of these it is a very good job you can get smaller ones that sit on a bench top I only have 3 phase ones. ( I think) I am sure single are available.

Well worth the tenner it costs to subscribe eh?

Sounds like a decent enough saw so I'd spend good money on a blade and see how it goes, it might save you shelling out unnecessarily for expensive equipment.
