Thermometer

The arc welding tutorial was written with several days of help and guidance from professional welders whose time was funded by your donations. It would not have been a useful tutorial had I attempted it alone. Supporters also funded professional writing for the Welding Different Types of Steel reference.

Further tutorials are planned on a similar basis, TIG being the next one, and funding is again required as professional welders will be needed to help write it.

Donating via Paypal

If you are a forum member it's best to donate via the supporters page. It's a one off donation of £10 that gives you a few extra features on the forum such as use of the chat room, larger avatars, and more PM storage for a year. It will ask at the end of the year if you want to renew, but doesn't renew without your say so.

Otherwise send a donation to malcolm@mig-welding.co.uk via Paypal using the button on the left. It also works for credit cards, though you need to be quite insistent that you don't want a Paypal account.

Other ways to help the website

Don't donate if you don't want to. There are plenty of other ways you can help:

  • Join in with the forum
It's a great community. Even experienced welders can learn a lot, and others will learn from you. Please spend a little time helping others out. You don't need to be an experienced welder to help others on the forum.
  • Link here from your own site
If the site has helped you please pass the word onto others. We'll hopefully be able to help them as well and links will help build the website.

The Thermometer

The thermometer to the left was last updated in April 2010.

Donations so far have covered outgoings for the whole of the arc welding tutorial and also the forum meet (donations from those who attended the meet were passed on to cover food and materials). A big thankyou to everyone who contributed.

Note that your donations are not used to fund hosting costs, nor my own time. The pot of gold is used to pay professionals to persuade them to stop their normal work in order to make videos and offer the advice and expertise that will make this new generation of tutorials really useful.

Further Plans

There's still a fair bit to launch in the arc tutorial. That's been covered and should be with you within a few weeks. A TIG tutorial is planned during 2010, and again your donations will help to make it a useful one. The estimated cost is about the same as the arc tutorial.
