chop saw problem

ello again just wanted to run an electrical problem by you.
my old chop saw give up the ghost so i skimped and bought one of those yellow jobs off ebay, think its an american make.
any way tried using it yesterday for the first time and it keeps tripping the fuse box indoors sometimes it would let me cut but more times than not it would trip before the disk got up to speed i felt like booting it around the yard.
dont know nothing about electrics so wondered if any of you could tell me whats at fault its 220v 50hz 2500w 3800rpm thanks.

It's worth finding out, if it's an earth fault you have a short somewhere in the chopsaw, if its the MCB (too much current) it could still be a short or maybe a mechanical bind. You may have an overload if something else in the building is drawing a lot of current.

Look at the one that is tripping and it will tell you what it is. Please amswer my question, does it trip everything or just the sockets?

the only way i can describe it is on the fuse box there are 5 fuses with a button on each to reset when any one of them go but there all ok and not tripping its the main switch that im having to reset each time i pull the trigger on this chop saw. thanks.

Sounds like the RCD. Are there any markings on it?

Check the plug on the chop saw, it should have UK colour coding, brown-live, blue = neutral and green/yellow = earth. Make sure all the wires are sound. Have you tried it in another mains socket?

If it's an American saw it may (illegally) have USA colour codes, white = neutral, black = live and green = earth.

If that doesn't help have it PAT tested.

thanks i dont know whats at fault the wiring in the plug is straight forward blue yellow brown.fuse just says 250v on it.
what i did fail to mention is when it would trip id get a pop and a light flash come out the motor as it tripped tried it in 3 different sockets so far it did the same thing,dont understand why it would let me cut one peice of box section and not another and so on thanks for you help folks

I think your ebay cheapy is just that. Get yourself decent tools, its cheaper to buy expensive tools as they last longer and you buy once.
That really doesnt sound like a healthy machine, and for your safety, you shouldnt really use it.

It sounds like the earth trip is the one that is tripping. The machine may have a wiring fault, intermittent, or it may be cheap junk. Get it looked at by someone that is more practical than you are or throw it away.

Would this motor be a capacitor start type? If so, could be a problem switching over when it's getting up to speed...
Anyone advance on this?

i was ready to bin this chopsaw this afternoon decided to at least take it to bits and have a gander .
i beleive ive found the problem so put some photos up to run by you, ive got this far and noticed the fan doesnt go round freely it hits a steel coller that wraps around the copper harness.wondering if this could be why it kicks up then trips.
ive highlighted the shiny bit in the pics where its hitting and stopped there as im unsure how the fan comes of so i can trim the collar back.
any help appreciated

Can't really help you as to the problem, but I've got the same saw (I think), yellow and ebay are the clues, make is Valley from the US, although no doubt made in the Far East. Haven't had any problems with mine tripping anything, but you're not missing out on much as the dame thing won't cut straight as the base is so flimsy and the clamp is just laughable. At some future point I may make a new base and clamp out of some real steel but even then I wouldn't consider it of any use other than rough cutting to length.

you have a point JM heat of the moment and all that but that aside i had to order this saw twice from him, took just under 3 weeks total to get here but it didnt come to my house it went to 41 as opposed to 40 which is opposite side and down the road a bit to this old bird who gladly excepted this gift and set about trying to flog it on the estate for a tenner a lass on the street recognised my misses name on the box and asked us if we,d ordered a chop saw lol and told us some old birds flogging one with your wifes name on....
you know how it is round here
then i have to strip it down to get it working.
well i just put the thing back together and i fired it up alls well with it now.
theres no way that had been tested.
