Chop saw not working makita

Ive got a chop saw makita ls0815fl

Not working looking at for a mate

Ive checked all the connections/wires inside the unit the switxh when pulled shows power going through and power gets to the soft start an xs 12/d3

When the switch is pressed the gray wire im getting 240v(c) the right blue wire is a also gets 240 the middle one (b) gets nothing

Ive checked with a meter between a to c and I get a high reading in the 200k setting on my meter about 1560
Between a-b and c-a nothing in any setting in ohms or diode setting

Im I right just for a quick test remove the soft start all together as all wires are live i can just wire the 3 Iives together to confirm its this is the problem is my thinking ? (Though I know its not good for the mechine but as a test to see if its this is at fault ? If then buy another and fit it there about 30 quid so not loads money but don't want to spend to find its the winnings that are duff (also the winding are not easy to get at to measure them to rule them out)

The brushes are a bit short but do have a fair amount of meat on them so again are ok for testing and if once working will replace them as im sure for less than a 10er it would be worth it

I would _start_ by replacing the brushes.

Put that item at the top of the list, not somewhere further down the list.

If you take the brushes out, you can probe the commutator through the holes.

I agree check the bushes, remove n clean as well as the bush holders, it's not unknown for the carbon to jamm the bush in the holder and hold them off the commutator surface, also something else to clean, including the comm slots.

A new set of bushes shouldn't break the bank, just another thing off the list.

Ive already removed the brushes and cleaned

Ive also put my meter on the brushes and am getting no power to the brush housing so that's why I assume the soft start is not working ant thought ive rulled them out for the moment


The windings look fairly clean a bit of carbon dust in there that im going to blow out but the windings don't look back or smell burnt the comutator it worn but looks flat and nicely round with no gouge marks or burn markings on there either

Normaly but not all the time if brushes are worn if you give the housing a few wacks while holding the trigger it does start as the vibration gets it to give a bit of contact but as im not getting power to thr brushes housing the powers not getting that far

I fixed up a dead/dying Makita cordless circular saw a while ago.
Brushes looked ok but had melted the brush holder so were not moving freely.
New brush holders (plastic/metal, cheap to replace) + brushes and it's been working fine ever since.

Been on the hunt for one of those fir a year now never see them come up on market place or in the 2nd hand stores

It's a wounder how much they will cut

Ive just recent bought a half knackard right angled drill chuck as busted but I derusted and oiled it that's in my kit now prob use only 2 times a year but when you need it you need it

What does every one think on just shorting out the 3 wires will that bypass the slow start ? Just for a quick test ?
