Noticed last night the threading lever on my lathe has two engaged positions, there's a heavy detent but it'll go a little bit further. At the first detent there's about 1/16" backlash on the leadscrew but pushing it a little further makes it fit the leadscrew better. I've always just moved the lever as far as it goes and it works fine but last night I only went to the first detent so the tool didn't line up with the thread and ruined a nearly finished part.
Sorry, different camera angles don't show it brilliantly, there's about 15 degrees between the two positions.
I've actually got a spare halfnut somewhere nut it looks like a bit of a job to replace it, leadscrew and feed rod need to come off, then the apron comes off?
Here's the lever, the two divots are for a ball bearing to hold it but you can clearly see a second position being worn in at the edge of the leftmost hole.
