Chinese function generator kit build

Bought a cheap function generator kit direct from China on eBay.
It turned up today so out with the soldering iron....

A quick test with the oscilloscope I still don’t really know how to use.

Build it, put it in a drawer and probably never use it.

I’m hoping to learn a bit about electronics fault-finding, if it does or doesn’t help it was only £4.

Build a second one then put 2 out of phase sinewaves into your scope to produce a Lissajous figure?

The square wave looks fine , the scope doesn't display the fast rising/falling edge well but it's there. If you zoom right in time-wise you might see it, you should also see how much overshoot/ripple there is (looks like there is some, the lines aren't completely flat).

I’ve been wondering why the lines aren’t flat, I thought it might be a fault with the scope?

It could be your probe. Usually there's an adjustment screw to alter the capacitance to limit overshoot and distortion.

And you usually do that using the function generator on the scope...

A function generator is quite a versatile device. One is for audio testing, so,you can check frequency response and general performance.

Don't forget you need the timebase running from right to left on these Chinese devices.

Square wave issue is just probe compensation. As it happens I have happy memories of the D1011. Was my first scope so many years ago.
