You have to tie a brick to it's legs to make it work, an old bloke I worked with recommended this method many years ago. I hoped he was joking at the time.

My grandfather used to fire a shotgun up it.

As I have said before he was a crazy old man.

I doubt he had a flue liner. Well if he had one initially I doubt he had one at the end of a few ‘cleaning sessions’

Well I finally got it swept today prompted by the cooler weather , leaky partly insulated house and wanting to light the woodburner ....I

is that top shield looking ok it might be worth taking a look at it and getting one made up or on order

if you consider it may need it or not

Took a while to work out how to get the baffle out , but stripped out the firebricks ,grate etc and hoovered it all out ,. Got the brush up ok no worries over 16" brush up the 6" liner , got stuck near the bottom tho getting it out because of the double set bend in the liner , bit of pushing pulling ,twisting and it was out .
I did crack the rear firebrick getting it back in but it's okay just tight fitting ..... ( I say firebricks but there some kind of vermiculite ?? )
So easy to do bit dirty but there wasn't much soot at all which is good

Meant to say @Gaz 1the metal.baffle is a bit bent from the heat , readily available tho , the clear view stove factory is only ten miles away ,

I don't think he was; my late mother born in rural Hampshire in 1905 could remember just such a thing happening.
