After cleaning that mega rusty caliper I had last week with an assortment of wire brushes, wheels, chisels (a comb shavehook worked well) I blasted it with the pressure washer, then painted the outside with jenolite rust remover a couple of times.I bet its phosphoric acid then a neutraliser.

The products from several different manufacturers have instructions that are rather similar, suggesting the products themselves are more or less the same, chemically and disposal-wise.
