My next door neighbour (lovely chap - the local vicar) topped up his brake fluid with screenwash after mixing up the fillers. Garage had to flush the whole system.

hope he kept the bits - remember to peen the welds on the block as they cool!
as for "its your fault" my ex phoned to say the exploded engine on the side of the M6 was due to me putting too much oil in it according to the brakedown man, but failed to tell him she had been running round with a dry sump till i filled it to the dipstick mark.

Yeh the standard engine is crap,I have seen bigger con rods on a 125cc m/cycle, which bend, I think they detonate then crack pistons thats what has happened to this one the piston was in two pieces cracked right through the crown and the geudgeon pin.

Am I missing something here? I used to gap my plugs with a hacksaw blade. .025".
Back in Norfolk.. guy turns up in his Rapier. He had it going well on the Norwich straight, made a bit of a noise and lost power. Seems to rattle a bit.. is it something I could fix easily?
Hole in side of block with bits of piston and rod scattered or in the sump...
I suggested a hearing aid, but since I had a spare Alpine engine, fitted that. He was well pleased, but rolled it the next week 'seeing what it would do'.
Darwin awaited him, but not that time.

With all these sex scandal's going on at the moment, Best not mention doing any RAPIER's in the 70's !!!! I dont remember them anyway coz I'm only 59 or is it I dont remember them coz I'm 59, HUM !! I dont remember.

Sunbeam Rapier. The Hillman Minx with the engine out of the Sunbeam Alpine (or in his case, a much earlier 1500, which I swopped out for the more powerfull 1600.)
Rapier? Long and very thin. Now if you are talking Swordsman......

Exactly the same colour as my Dads, for some reason it had the 3 speed box in it but we fitted the 4 speed, and big valve head n bigger twin carbs I won the auto test (closed to our club so didnt need a comp license ) at the age of 14, in it.
Which p****ed off a few of the older members!!
I allways remember getting my first Mechanics Bollockin off my Dad on that car at 12 when doin brake pipes for screwing and twisting the steel pipe round when undoin the flexi hose 'Shoulduve used two spanners Ya Dick Ed' Ha!!! I NEVER will forget that!, Funny was just doin a brake pipe NOW and I allways think of that. And then you go and show me the exact car !!

My uncles used to work in a motorfactors and told me about a chap who kept came in 4 times in an afternoon and bought 20 litres of oil (5 litre can each time).
One of the chaps working there asked why he need so much oil and was told by the gentleman that "the oil isn't up to the filler cap yet".
