I decided I'd rather make one detailed project than 10 that I throw away/chop up a few years after completed.....I hope this will be around long after I'm gone. Plus I enjoy doing the work.....it's my sanity break!

I got the exhaust finished last night. I couldn't do a one piece system and still get the engine and body off the frame. Where it goes through the running board is a 1/2" piece of 1/4" rod that the pipe fits onto. I "C" notched the frame to keep the exhaust up nice and tight... here's a couple pics:

Here's a few more shots of the exhaust. I was been shining up the metal when it was apart and cleaned up the edge of the running boards and front fenders also.

I got the nerf bars build last night, tapered the end of the frame rails and welded them on. After that I did a little work flattening the wood in the box. I've been spending time tweaking parts to tune up the fit on everything lately. Here's the pics

Seeing how I have the next week off, I snuck out to the garage last night. Started by polishing up the rims and 3 coats of clear, some body work smoothing out the front of the rear fender transition, wire brushed the heat coloring off the body and painted the tires and blower belt with truck bed liner. After all that I heat treated the exhaust. Turned out good, the paint makes the metal pop a bit more.....I'm pleased! Last shot is the "Rat Rod" look.

Getting tired of pics yet? Here's the latest, it was somewhere's around -35*C last night so I set up shop in the kitchen. Started by painting the frame gloss black, made the 4 link stand out better. Painted the carbs bronze, rear dif flat black, sanded the truck bedliner on the tires to give the threads a more realistic look. Finally used the steel wool to knock down the black on the gun blued sheet metal parts....oh yeah blued the rad housing and silver painted the headlights (coat of white will be next for the lights).

For size reference the side view pic was shot on a legal sized filing cabinet. Probably about the same as the truck for time involved 300ish hours. Enjoy:

I started the base, I'm planning to wire a working "street light" on the pole at the back. I also finally got around to turning down the bolts holding the front wheels on. Also pics of the new welder that Steve (sbcmweb) sent me, thanks again, it's a very cool addition.

Got some work completed on the light last night, started on the base then moved on to the top parts. The base started as 6 seperate pieces, the reflector was a piece of pipe that was flared/tapered. Then drilled a hole through the mount bolt to get the wires through. Here's the pics:

Hi Swells, your models are tremendous, its great to see a series of pictures showing so many different stages of the build. Do you start off with a set of working drawings or do you develope and modify as you go along to get the result you are after?

Thanks Benji, I usually start with an idea and build from there. There were no plans for either the truck or the eagle, just a bunch of thoughts on what I wanted it to be.

Here's the latest, made the ball and hitch, painted the trailer, stained the wood, polished the mags, painted the tires (truck bed liner), put handles on the O/A cart and painted it too. I'm planning to build an extension for the base to accomodate the trailer. After that, it's finally done! Here's the pics:
