cheapest mig for bodywork?

Right...im going to need a mig fairly soon if things go to plan, i dont want to spend loads on a new unit just yet, so want to know what second hand units would be recommended as being cheap and relatively good to use on body panels?

Easy set up, 30A low end [good enough] & very good price for the quality.

You don't need anything special to weld car panels. I had a Clarke for ages which did loads of work, gave no issues and welded fine.

yes my clarke 130 is 28 years old and never given any trouble and its done hundreds literally of big sill replacement jobs. i dont know where they were made back in the 80s but I dont think it could have been china because its lasted too long

Pro 90 with a fan upgrade I have is good as gold never really gives any bother and is years old takes the 5kg spools pick them up for next to nothing second hand

If all you want it for is car panels, and you're interested in cheap and OK, there are always loads of Clarke 90s/105s/110s on ebay, which often sell for less than a ton, sometimes £50 or £60. Search on Clarke MIG and look at the sold listings.

They are mainly for collection only so you may have to wait a bit until one comes up within a sensible driving distance.

i should have stated i would prefer something with 130-150amps top end as ive used the 100amp offerings and arent too fond of them really, although never used a clarke so dont know if they are better...

Why gamble on a cheap hobby machine when you can get something that will probably last you out and be lovely to use, I know what my choice would be.

depending on pay day amount i think i might be sorted with one of Hughs machines, i have had a look through the for sale section and there is a lot on offer so if for some reason i dont buy hugh's cebora i will browse again

I learnt to mig weld on a Clarke pro90, and it did me well until I found a bargain at an auction that I couldn't resist. But it did everything I could ask it to do on my car

i learnt with an industrial 3 phase mig but then bought a mighty mig 100 and although a huge drop in power it did fine for body work ut that was pretty much its limit...i would prefer something that can handle some slightly heavier stuff to bridge the gap between thin body work and the sort of things i would use a stick welder for
