Cheapest/diy plasma cutter

Id like a plasma cutter but to be honest I don't really need one

So, id have one if cheap enough. What are the cheapest ones out there or has anyone made a DIY one?

Many people have made their own plasma cutters. Often 'just for the hell of it'. Google for it or go on You Tube and perform a similar search.

That should keep you occupied for a few weeks until the urge passes.

I bought a R-Tech off their eBay shop, a shop soiled model that came with a full kit of accessories. Think it cost me a tad under £500. It is dead handy now I have it.

After having a look at some diy ones I think I'll wait and buy a regular one. By the time you buy the parts its still not cheap with no guarantee it will work.

Saw a used cut 30 for £100 the other day, seemed cheap, should have got it!

They are on eBay starting at about £160, the cost of bits on the DIY ones are more than that, plus you then need to build the thing.

However having never used one I can't say how good they are or how long they will last

I bought a cut40 some time back for about £150. As long as you change the tips and other bits regularly it will cut really accurately and even do a bevel edge. It will also save you hours and money over cutting discs and will run off a suitcase size compressor. It's really good for cutting holes in steel, just make a template out of 3mm ply or hardboard and stick it down with tape. Cut is about 1mm wide so you could mig weld the piece back if it's wrong !
