Have you checked to see if your bank account gives you breakdown cover? (Or looked into getting one that does?)
My natwest account does not have an age limit. It also covers you rather than the car so you don't need to ring them each time you change or drive a different vehicle.
There is a monthly charge for the account, it also includes travel and phone insurance plus a few benefits so may or may not be good value depending on if you actually want any of them?

Just had our RAC renewal through.
They want to increase it by £40 a year to £345
Are we paying extra because of EVs
No, you're paying extra because it's a renewal and they think you will just suck it up.
Give them a ring, tell them you haven't had a wage increase and can't afford to pay any more than last year and the price will drop back down.
Edit: my natwest account fee is £18/pm or £216 a year.
Pointless paying it for the account itself as it's just a normal bank account, but it includes AA breakdown, travel insurance and phone insurance. All of these can be used/managed through the natwest app.
It also gives you decent discounts on cinema tickets and food at a good number of places although I rarely use the last 2

I've been with Emergency Assist for many years ..only used them once and they were brilliant!!. My renewal came through in January £13.50 .... a year!! 2017 BMW 435D .. brilliant value.

I chose not to renew my AA membership at a cost of £152 inc £95 discount (30plus years loyalty) instead I joined up with the AA at a cost £86.

Britannia Rescue. No age limits, do large vans and motorhomes, and will recover them all to your home address or local garage.
I have personal cover, which covers myself and SWMBO in ANY vehicle, driver or passenger, so if you have a "fleet" as we do, including a big van and classic cars, its a no brainer. Costs me £116 a year. It isn't even worth considering anyone else.
Only used them twice in five years, both times for SWMBOs "new" car. Turned up within the hour both times, and recovered home. One time 125 miles.
RAC, AA, Green Flag are all useless when you need them.

Have you tried your own insurer? I've got autoaid cover but adding breakdown cover to the annual policy seems to add very little compared to buying it separately.

Well just called RAC and they obviously tried to keep me as I've been with them for 21 years.
Were able to offer me a £134 saving on quoted renewal price... still ends up £60 more than Britannia.
Britannia cover due to start end of the month.

You won't regret it. I certainly haven't after being with RAC and AA previous to that. Green Flag sounded great on the phone, until I mentioned the classic car, and that they would not recover you if "off road" and by that I mean a no start or something on a display or exhibition car park (field) NOT the Darien Gap challenge.

I wouldn't pay any monthly premium. Instead I made contact with local independent recovery outfits and have a great relationship with them as they uplifted a couple of cars for me in the past and I pay cash. I know 2 of them I can phone anytime and get uplifted and pay very cheap £ 
(Aka the same guys the AA / RAC use are normally local businesses)

My insurance with NFU includes RAC cover. I pay around £100 full comp for any driver over 25 and 3000miles pa on my UMM Transcat Classic policy

I got a garage - I also got a recovery truck - I have always had one...
Local stuff breakdowns - I deal with myself.
But in 40yrs - two drivers - me and wifey - I only paid for two recovery's....
So I conclude the same as @JOEPRO - if you got a well maintained car - whatever the age - you would be better off over time - putting your recovery premiums in a jam jar and just paying when it happens... You would get change in the jam jar over time - would you agree @JOEPRO ...?
