Are cheap stainless steel ball races any good? I have used them for replacement Quad steering races, on bikes used in salt water, they seem to work OK, but only do half a rev and back, at low speeds.
I make replacement tensioner pulleys for garden machinery belt drives, low numbers and low prices, so re-manufacture of the case hardened shafts on the needle roller bearing originals is out. I use ball races instead and, as such machines get left out in the rain, wondered if stainless races may be better than standard ones. I know, in theory the shields should keep water out, but experience on quad bikes has taught me they don’t keep it out very well.
