Cheap spool gun. Any good?

I use a 240v router but power it from a 110v transformer (yellow box type) using a patch lead I made up. Drops the speed and power to a safer/quieter level. Able then to use the 6mm shank flap wheels which are usually so poorly made that they don't run very true. If you got yourself a second 110v transformer (assume you have one!) then you could do same for the price of a 110 plug + 1foot cable + 240v socket. link togeather to get 55v to you die grinder.

So a 240v tool will run from a 110v transformer ?

Yep. I run my 240 angle grinders the same. Reduces noise level + if you snag grinder wheel it's easer to stall = less damage to YOU, aka under car with 41/2 disc spinning next to you. Ok it is still a dangerous tool but this makes it a bit safer. Also thoses wire cup brushes or knotted ones can some times not run to true and at full (240v) speed can pull out of your hands. Aslo less vibration. Note you do loose the punch of running at 240 but so long as you are not reshaping RSJ's works for me

I have a 110 transformer I dont use. So i think I will knock up a patch lead and give this a try. Thanks for the info

If you do you can use one of these http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Pow...cs/Semi+Flexible+Disc+115mm/d80/sd1770/p57283 Not as heavy handed as a grinding disk but longer lasting than a flap disk even though there for masonary. The slower speed gives the grit chance to work through the rust. Don't forget backing pad.

I quite like the clean and strip discs. Only problem is the cost. Cheapest I've found is Weldequip at £5.50

I would say get a power file but the cheep ones look cheep (plasticy) and the expensive ones are...expensive. So I made up adapter to use on one of my angle grinders (using the 110v adapter as speed would be to fast!) Will post pics when I get some. Drive roller + roller bearings + bit of scaffold + square tubing. Simples
