We spent a nice morning changing the starter on the van, The last few days it has been making a few odd noises when trying to start it, The starter was tucked up the back of beyond and it was easier to pull out the headlamp and air filter box and turbo pipes to get access, At some point a new starter got fitted but it was a Chinese copy the gear is worn badly and rattles so no chance of fixing it...Local guy does a recon Bosch for £90 no exchange

Pain to work on though.
Bit of a winner though with a bosch unit for that money.

No joke i went out and took that picture and gave my mate a serious ear bending as these are 10 feet away...

We wanted something simple to work on and not all technical, The crafter had a particulate filter and at the time we had be told to avoid, So far it has been solid and reliable and £90 is not bad compared to what a 62 plate transit just cost the neighbours son...£400 to do the particulate filter and a sensor

In regards to cheap replacement parts, I only fit them if theres very little fitting time involved & I'm strapped for cash. Otherwise anything over an hour I only fit decent stuff. Laying on your back isn't always a fun task!

Had a similar problem with one of the transits and it turned out to be a knackered dual mass flywheel that was eating the starters, launched it and fitted the solid flywheel conversion which solved the problem. Just saying

Transit mondeo and jag,
(2.2+2.4 tdci engines) are prone for filling the starters with swarf,

If going single mass make sure it is a decent kit as have seen them rattle the gearbox input bearings out and create issues with aux belt jumping.

The crafter is a good van but the more modern 2.5 engine can be troublesome also, the lt35 is a very good (if a little rattley) van and just a shame that they missed off some of the nice comfort' that could have made an amazing van.

i hate it sometime when your stuck need parts now can only get a pattern one quick enough and when it turns up its in a green and yellow box with the dreaded BGA brand on it, usally its a wheelbearing or frount pully and the job is made so much worse by the fact you know you'll be back there changeing the same thing all to soon

I wont buy from Euro parts any more as half the stuff either didn't fit as it was so badly made of broke soon after fitting.
You have to keep an eye on some of the Ebay stuff too

i hate it sometime when your stuck need parts now can only get a pattern one quick enough and when it turns up its in a green and yellow box with the dreaded BGA brand on it, usally its a wheelbearing or frount pully and the job is made so much worse by the fact you know you'll be back there changeing the same thing all to soon

I have the same issues with Landy parts, you scour ebay for a great deal on oem quality parts and the dreaded Britpart box arrives (some folk replace the first 2 letters with Sh....) It is really frustrating doing the work knowing you will be doing it again soon. Buy cheap and buy twice!

Some of the Britpart stuff is ok these days buy what bugs me is when they photograph the item on ebay so it looks like a decent item, not a blue box in sight and no mention of Britpart and you only find out when it arrives

I bought a seat foam and retrim kit a couple of years ago, was pretty good, I once tried their wheel bearing kit and only buy timken now...

I had a Landcover fuel tank that was so poor it wouldn't fit in the hole!

Crap Britpart Defender 200 tdi water pump. Outlet so close to block there was no room for the hose and clip!!

All back together now started like a dream, I think i am going to make some axle stands when i get time like i used to have that had a fine adjustment for the height...

Scaffolding adjusters could be worth adapting

The old ones i had got lent out and stolen, The threads were huge, The guy that made them used some old car jacks that had been junked
