Hmmm I've a a couple of Evolution saws now and I'm not sure I'd want another one even at that price.

Great if you don't mind angled cuts, but if you like things to be square...

Mine is fine regarding squareness...only problem I had was a dodgy blade I bought that lasted about 12 cuts in steel

I have a bandsaw for steel.

i got this saw a few weeks ago, ive done about 20 cuts through 40x40x3mm box section and it cut it great. I also had to cut some 2mm sheet strips and it was a pita. The back rest that you cut against has a 2mm gap along the bottom edge so when you cut thin sheet it gets pulled into this gap and messes the cuts up. It didnt seem to cut very easily through it either, i hope the blade isnt blunt already.

Clamp the sheet between two 18mm-ish pieces of mdf/ply.
Stops it springing, and eliminates the gap - itll work *much* better

Interesting that you say this, I've been planning to ask my boss to invest in a s/h one as I think it the best value for cutting stuff straight.
No doubt you've tried tweaking everything, so how not square are they? I had a look at some in B&Q to get a feel for the quality and thought they seemed OK but of course that doesn't compare to actually using the thing.

They are fully adjustable, i set mine up with a set square and it cuts straight.

I bought the Titan compound saw to cut the timber framing for the barn from Screwfix and it's been brilliant so long as you ignore the degree markings on the scales.
A cross cut distance of 352mm and a depth of cut of 62mm from memory.

Interesting that you say this, I've been planning to ask my boss to invest in a s/h one as I think it the best value for cutting stuff straight.
No doubt you've tried tweaking everything, so how not square are they? I had a look at some in B&Q to get a feel for the quality and thought they seemed OK but of course that doesn't compare to actually using the thing.

You can set the fence to cut square enough, but the blades on mine seemed to have an excessive amount of sideways play. Thin flat bar cuts ok I guess, but box section for example would have an angled 'vertical' cut if that makes any sense. The blade wanders off to the side on its way through.

Make sense?

For me, finer blade (1.7mm vs 3mm)
Plus when im using old timber, i dont have to worry about the odd bit of nail.

This is the bit ime confussed about...i also own a dewalt flip saw and have a 9" tipped blade in that which ive cut through hundreds of nails knocking the ends off pallet boards ect and its always come out the other end smiling with no tip damage...Granted ive had to run it over a green stone a few times to put an edge back on the tungstens but never chipped or knocked one off.

Itd probably be ok, but this saw was cheaper than a new blade for my RAS (£70 a time!)
And a new blade for the evo is cheaper than sharpening

How far out is the cut compared with using an angle grinder? It's box section I want it for
