Cheap eBay Turbos

Hey guys anyone got any experience with them I have an 2006 1.6 HDI partner van not worth alot of money and don't fancy spending £500 plus for one from ECP.

hi, can't comment on the quality of the turbo but ild been checking oil supply to the turbo, that engine has a big issue with Carbon build up blocking filter in vacuum pump, oil pickup tube and little filter in banjo bolt on turbo oil feed pipe. Google dv6 turbo failure

100% right. If you remove the banjo bolt from the oil supply pipe theres a metal gauze in the bolt thats guaranteed to be blocked

I've done plenty as work at a ford dealer. there is a bulletin about it, 8 hours work to fit turbo, clean out vac pump and oil pick up then measure oil quantity from return over a timed period, every one i did was out of a spec, return to low and resulted in a replacement engine, that said im sure you could probably flush it all out

Removed the metal gauze from the oil pick up pipe and cleaned out the sump around 5 years ago, was actually really clean I know these 1.6 HDI are filthy gunky engine's if not looked after. As far as I know this is the original turbo which has 180k on.

Those engines seem to develop a taste for turbos, once it's eaten one new ones don't seem to last long . Cleaning the engine out is a bigger job than fitting the turbo by some margin as well

If casing etc all okay, just replace the core.
Loads on ebay from £60

Not much to turbos, so should be easy enough to take apart.
(take note of rotation of parts, when I refitted mine to manifold had to take off again to rotate bits!, astra vxr)

Also, if you don't fancy dealing with it yourself (contrary to Coo's post, my experience with taking turbos apart is that it's really fiddly and you may well break something if you're not careful, but that's probably because I'm cack-handed) you could ship it off to a rebuilder who will replace the core for you for not much more. I had my TD04 done at a company in Blackpool after I managed to break the compressor wheel (don't ask) and it was about £120 I think, new core, fitted and clocked to my spec, and no messing around
