Charging socket on motorbike?

Rather than lift the seat to put croc clips on the battery to plug a trickle charger in.

On my exup I put a molded two bullet connector[male&female] from a car.
I wondered if there was anything a little posher and maybe water proof?

As I understand his original post, he is looking for something so the pixies can enter the two-wheeled device not so they can leave.

If you put a socket on the bike, a socket is an outlet not an inlet. Similarly, if you use a socket as an inlet, the pins of the male plug are live and exposed, so if you drop it on something metallic, it will short.

I think he needs the equivalent of an appliance inlet (https://www.screwfix.com/p/abb-32a-2p-e-inlet-250v/9071X), seen on the side of refrigerated vehicles, but in a slightly smaller form factor.

Trickle chargers generally come with them.

It is both. You might otherwise like to convince BMW of the folly of their ways? From a purely electronic point of view, you are of course correct. However the socket is a convenient method of passing low Voltage and being fused both sides the risk is minimal.

Powerlet the yanks call them. I have the plugs in stock and also surface mount sockets. Otherwise Vehicle Wiring Products probably have panel mount versions as fitted to my K1200LT.

I've used the common or garden lighter style socket on my ZZRs, mounted open end down (and with the waterproof cover if you pick the "marine" version) no problems with weather, and the extension cables, multi-outlets etc. are cheap.

If you add a 12v airbed blower, people at bike rallies let you hold their bottles of brandy while their airbeds inflate

I use a marine socket on the XT direct to the battery with inline fuse.

outputs to std automotive phone / sat nav etc chargers, inputs direct to battery for trickle charging.

from memory you have two feeds behind the headlight ACC1 & 2. One is switched and the other permanent live. Factory fit power socket uses the permanent.

As per @James1979 post, an SAE connector, I put them on my bikes so they can be plugged into a maintenance charger, it has a rubber waterproof cap.

This one's cable tied to hang out under the right hand side cover.

Yep, that's the one - I did find that "open end up" the sealing plug isn't reliable though - even with some dielectric grease on the contacts plenty of nice green corrosion built up in a few months of riding with intermittent rain etc.

My BMW comes with one as standard, and it was built in '97. Oddly, it's down next to the left footpeg, mounted in the starter motor cover, so I moved it a little so if I'm using it when riding i'm not going to snap the plug off inadvertently.

I used it to power my gps for a couple of european trips, but then I hardwired it and haven't used the DIN socket since.

These are what I used on my exup:

I think the charger - a wall wart meant for a mower - came with that type of plug/socket.
I got a matching plug from a car in the scrap yard. What I did for acap to keep the temrianls clean was to have another plug with
the wires chopped off and plug that in
it worked fine, but I don't think l have any more of them.
I will take a look at some of the suggestions.
