Changing to CK flexi torch from WP26 torch

I have come to realise that whilst the iTorch that came with my Lorch is great for day to day tig welding, its not so great for more intricate work that needs a much smaller torch.

I am no expert on tig setups and so was after a bit of advice on what I need to get to do more intricate work - like a CK or similar flexible wp9 or wp17 gas cooled torch (as i can afford water cooling....yet). Amps probably would get about about 75 max.

I was thinking that as an option to also go down the gas lens route as well for better gas coverage.

Matt1978 has given me a few bits of advice but I also need to be advised on how you actually set it up on the tig given that the iTorch has its own dedicated connections for gas etc on the front of the Lorch, what adapter/connectors etc do you need ?

Do you need a gas through dinse connector ? What else do you need ?

Bit clueless on this front to be honest....

I have a WP9 CK torch and it's light years better than my normal torch, it weighs nothing and is just so comfortable to use compared to the weldcraft

I got the torch and pipe given to me by Chevy2 on here, I just bought the dinse adaptor and screwed it on.

The gas through dinse adaptors exist in various flavours as while any #9 torch will be 3/8" BSP for the gas/power line machines vary... 1/4 BSP, 3/8 BSP or Q/R gas fitting for example. I suspect you want the later based on a pic of the front of Lorch TIGs which appear to use the same Rectus 20 hose end as my Lincoln and looks like

How are you gonna control the new torch? CK torches (along with some other brands) are supplied bare while others come with a microswitch but there are eleventy million different plugs used by machine manufactures so you obviously need the correct plug to hook it all up. Cheers, I am trying to get the time to finish the footpedal at the moment, it will have a microswitch to initate and stop arc and can set the amps on the machine beforehand.

I am not trying to sell you on my choice of torch.

But when I bought my lorch. I chose the I-torch as well.
It's comes in plenty of choices

I got mine in 25th length and with the wp20 small head and handle.
Same as a air cooled wp9 only it's water cooled.

The lorch I-torch in wp20 is prity small.

What I liked was at 25ft long. It's handy being able to adjust the welder from the torch handle

You will also need another torch electrical connection plug, as you will need to connect pins 4 and 5 together which informs the machine that an air cooled torch is installed and then you can control the machine with the footpedal.

If you don't connect pins 4 and 5 together the machine cuts out after a couple of seconds....

Cheers zzr, when I got all the bits for my pedal a while back, I bridged pins 6,7,8 in the amphenol plug to sort that.

Just need to get the toothed belt to work how i want it and neaten the pedal up a bit !
