madkayaker niceone,becuse i have bottles supply of medical oxygen but have yet too test it out with the acetylene.
mr magwire an brightspark i have never used a mini torch but from the pics i seen on the net eveything looks smaller than the full size set we have.regs,torch the lot but seen as u lads know ur stuff il take your word for it...again very helpfull.
an magwire when i buy a mini kit i will buy the tanks included so i shouldnt realy have a problem with filling them i think if they belong too me?
i shall only pay too get them filled as i said be for i dont realy want too rent.

Tee hee. It reminds me of the time I wanted a bottle of compressed air for airbrushing. My dad, an anaesthetist, gave me a regulator he had lying round his office to take down to BOC. They had a look at it and noticed he'd filed off the prongs which mean you can only fit it to oxygen, entanox or whatever. The guy said "This is lethal - you could fill someone's lungs up with acetylene!"

iv bin having a think about ur last post:
i have a full size torch,regs,arestors an hose, i all so have a medical oxygen bottle not sure of the size
but it only weighs about 3 k.g an its full.
so with what u have said all i realy need is a small ish acetylene bottle an i can rig it all together?
will that work?.....safely

i dont see any reason why not mate, i assume the medical oxy cylinder has the same valve assembly as the standard oxy bottles.

its a pitty you werent closer mate, ive got a spare acet you could have had.

yes mate im 90% sure its the same set up between the too bottles.
il have a closer look some time soon.
an yeah that set up is sounding nice now i know a little more about it.

the acetylene reg will fit a propane bottle and most scrap yards use propane for cutting

if you just want heat & cutting oxy propane is cheaper & just as usefull... not so good for welding or brazing tho

HArd to beat propane for cutting if you have to move about. The bottles are light and they can be moved about easily. They also last many more bottles of oxy than acetylene. Many main contractor won't allow acetylene on site because if there's a fire anywhere near a bottle it effectively shuts the site for 2 days.

just a final safety thing mate dont EVER lay you acetylene or propane cylinders down, as they are a liquid in the cylinder not a gas! its converted to a gas by voodoo (not sure how this bit works as you can tell) in the top of said cylinder .
if you do try using them on there side , you will DIE . just a thought.

evaporation, that why your bottle gets ice on it as you use them its the fast rate of evaporation

snooper...iv just replyed too a guy called dai who told me like u did i can use the acetylene reg,arestor an hose for runing the propane??? is that safe move to pull?
becuse i was told i wood have to buy propane reg,hose ect ect.
mike os no mate no welding needed so runing propane is no problem.
weldmeister yes mate i know that one about laying bottles down....bad move!

the only thing u probs need is a propane burning nozzle as u said u allready have o/a burning gear and will be fitted with acetylene nozzle

Duffman, seeing as how you don't seem to have a clue as to the basics of safety with this kit (not trying to be rude, but if you want to convert oxygen bottles to acetylene, you need help), I suggest you read this wikipedia article, for starters

It's perfectly reasonable to use acetylene, and easy to do it safely, but there are basics to follow. All the best .

And no, you shouldn't use acetylene kit for propane. Especially not if people called Snooper and Dai tell you you can (says Drains ). You can though. Different nozzles mind you.

A thought - if you're using this kit for cutting only, why don't you dump the acetylene idea and just use propane instead? It's easier, cheaper, safer and just as good (but you need a tad more pre-heat)

its u who misunderstands me!
i know how too use this kit...an use it well.iv never had too set it up tho that why u here alot of questions.from what people have said im going too buy pass the acetylene an use propane!
again i never used this! u look on ebay an other sites an it will tell you u need too change other parts of the torch kit aswell.im not a expert on seting this type of equipment up an i dont want to get it wrung!!!
yes i did want to change a oxygen bottle to acetylene but thats be i found about porus cores an that.
if i needed help in useing the torch i wood just ask...i dont!
i need help with seting one up!

Duffman, I didn't suggest you needed help in using the torch. Where did you get that from?

Read down that wikipedia article - lots of stuff on safety further down - it includes all the set up and storage info.

Again - on the propane - you should use a propane regulator, hoses that have never seen acetylene, and a propane nozzle in your torch. The torch itself is the same as for acet.
You can use all the same stuff except for the nozzle, but it's not as safe to mix the gear.

the use of a torch safely i know about.
the set up of a torch i know about but still a little unsure...there for not that safely!
what i realy want too know is the difference its goin to make useing oxy acetylene equipment on a oxy propane set up? theres guys on here said it dosent matter an told me too just change the nozzle an away i go.....other people have told me too buy propane reg too be on the safe side...?why what
difference is it going 2make???????
