They were dragged through the courts. Ok was not fined after he pleaded "Action in Good intent"

You should come to NZ, it's a lot less silly (though not as silly as letting any man and his dog cut up another man's windfall).

There have been times where slips have happened on the roads in heavy rain (sometimes small earthquakes loosen ground too), and passing contractors will move it to the side of the road. Obviously I'm not talking about the big ones like in Kaikoura but small-ish rocks and earth. It's good to have that in society; when I lived in England it seemed nobody did anything for fear of reprisal/sueing.

I know that people need to be protected from evil idiots who have no finer feelings.... but you can't wrap the whole of society in bubble wrap ....
The result of that is a very bland and dull world ... when you are (when I was ) a kid you learn about danger by doing dangerous stuff....

Folk do like a bit of free wood, I give all the softwood and rubbish away. Joe public have shifted thousands of tons of it from outside of my place, it just needs to be handleable sizes. Absolutely no way would I allow any of them to use a saw on my property.

I reported some guys cutting a branch of a tree in a public space near me. They had no PPE and were using chainsaws. The Council didn't take a blind bit of notice.

I think it's a urban myth that you can get done if someone slips where you've cleared snow, unless you do something daft like wash it away with a hose on a freezing day. This was the view taken by a barrister interviewed on the radio.

It's easy saying "you should've", but I would have been inclined to call the Police stating an imminent threat of danger or harm to them or the public...

Although that doesn't always help, car abandoned in one side of the main road on the way home last night, unoccupied in light snow, lights on... Two Police cars went past it and didn't even stop to check the vehicle or attempt to move it off the main road...

Alternatively you need nice mates who do some tree surgery and supply fire wood.

I get a pick up truck load of fire wood that's been seasoned but branches are too small to sell. It's always exchanged for a feast cooked in the tandoor and some beer

You lucky git! I have to buy mine and it's normally not as dry as advertised, after a year in the wood store it's good to go.

I'd love a wood burner but my current house chimney flue arrangement won't let me have one. Oil fired burner is vented up chimney and fireplace is all blocked up!!

I use fire wood for cooking with in the tandoor and other garden appliances I've made

I work for the FC, I am a fully qualified chainsaw operator. When trees are blown over a road it is trained council workers or us that get the job of clearing it. Windblow is non forgiving, it will kill you if you get it wrong. An untrained chainsaw operator is a liability a local council will not want anything to do with.
