chainsaw help please

just bought an old saw off a mate as he didnt need it anymore.
ive had a couple of saws both stihl's. but this one is a mcculloch. first thoughts was its well made but old.
now the thing is that i dont think its got the right bar on. its an oregon bar 14 inch. the saw is a mcculloch 610. made in america.
any one know the age and the correct bar length.
also does anyone know a cheapish supplier for bars and chains. ive seen them around the 30 quid mark for 14 inch chain and bar, as the previous owner ran it without chain oil(what a knob) so its worn the bar a bit.
i would take it down the local stihl place i use for the others but they are pricey

Have seen them listed locally with 16 and 18" chains.

I had a Mcculloch "Eager Beaver". Was small at 14" but at 40cc had lots of power. I traded it used to a buddy of mine for a 100mB hard disk. 10 years later, the saw is still going strong and on to a 3rd owner while the 100mB HD has no value

My 14" would overheat chains real quick. I would go with at 16" to allow for more cooling. On mine with the 14" it was also unbalanced. Start it and not hold it down the torque would lift the bar up off the floor. Was scary first time it happened

You need to paint "Stihl" on the side for that to look right

lol already got a 24 and a 36 i bought it fo the little odd bits round the farm.
do you think it will be ok with a 16 inch?

mc.culloch is the electrolux group now. Cheap and cheerful diy saws. If you take them to get em repaired here, they pull a face and sigh! But you can get them new very cheap, so kind of a disposable chain saw.

ive got 2 stihls and just wanted one to chuck in the car and chop some of the smaller stuff up. ive got a 24 inch and a 36 inch stihl. so i wanted something a bit smaller.
i can service them myself having been brought up with them (dad worked for the forestry comm)
i wont be used alot, or for long periods as the stihls get the most usage. but i wanted to get it working sweet like the stihls. gonna get a 16 inch bar and new chain for it as the knob who sold it me decided he would cut up some old railway sleepers and took a tooth off. plus he tried to sharpen it with a hand file and he's fooked it up big time.
i wouldnt usually go for the cheapo ones but as said above there more like disposable ones but i want it to be as good as it can be and safe.

I've always used a hand file to sharpen my chain, is there another way?
