Don’t drill a pilot hole the size of the pin whatever you do. Mag drills use the pin to pop out the billet .
If your drill is doing figure eight then the guide is loose or magnets getting weak there is a lot of different size pins as there’s multiple depths of cutter.
Your centre should be roughly 5mm longer then your bit . Drilling up to 2000 holes a week with a mag drill ya get very used to them if it was me I’d do like Pete said and make a jig
