This was all done on the lathe. I needed a 5.xmm hole for a 1/4-20 thread (camera mount) and that was going into the end of a 10mm round bar of titanium. I can see the attraction of spotting drills but if I am on the lathe, I reach for the chuck which already carries a centre drill.
A large centre drill will do a good job of making a concentric start for a drill bit but my larger c.d.'s are all as blunt as a house brick. So I reached for a smaller diameter one I use less often (because they're weak!) and, well, here we are...
